Golden Point is a single deciding point played at 40–40 when a padel match uses no-advantage scoring. The pair that wins that point wins the game.

It is simple once everyone agrees on it, but it causes arguments when one pair expects advantage scoring and the other expects a deciding point.

Try the interactive scoring comparison

At 40–40, the receiving pair chooses whether to receive on the right or left side. The receivers cannot change their established positions just for the deciding point. The winner of the Golden Point wins the game immediately.

In mixed competition, the current FIP rule specifies that the receiver must be the same sex as the server.

Golden Point produces the shortest, most predictable games. Star Point preserves some advantage play while still limiting very long deuce games.

Under the current FIP rule, the receiving pair chooses whether the deciding serve comes to the right or left receiving side. The receivers do not swap their established positions for that point.

That choice can be tactical: a pair may prefer its stronger returner, a favorable server matchup, or the side that has worked best during the match.

All four players should know that the next point decides the game before the serve begins.

  • The scoring format was not agreed before play.
  • The receiving side choice was unclear.
  • Someone called advantage even though no-ad scoring was selected.
  • Players confused Golden Point with the later deciding point in Star Point.

VMSPadel lets you choose the format before the match, update points from Apple Watch, and show the live score on iPhone. That keeps the rule and current score visible when the game reaches deuce.
